A lot of orthopaedic and trauma conditions need surgery to be repaired. Bone defects during revision arthroplasty, correction of deformities, spinal fusion procedures, traumatic and posttraumatic conditions are some of the challenges encountered by orthopaedic surgeon. During last decade discover and initial clinical use of autologous growth factor in order to enhance bone healing has been described in the literature as a method to improve healing of soft tissues, wound and also bone. Among different autologous growth factors particular interest was gained by platelet derived growth factors (PDGF). Several studies have been published on his topic, both experimental and animal studies, while very few data are available for discussion on human series in an orthopaedic contest. Still interest is growing among orthopaedic community for good result obtainable by this technique in different conditions, like tendon surgery, low grade arthrosis, impaired healing.
